A translation of the Oxford Learner's Pocket Dictionary, this dictionary gives complete information (pronunciation, grammar and meaning) for over 26,000 words and phrases in standard and easy Marathi. It gives concise and clear definitions with practical usage and illustrations that one comes across in day-to-day life. Apart from giving idiom equivalents in Marathi wherever possible, it gives a large number of synonymous Marathi words which help to explain the headword in all its shades of meaning. Currently Professor of Marathi Linguistics at the Deccan College, Pune, Dr Dhonde has earlier held positions of Lecturer in Applied Linguistics and Reader in Semantics and Lexicography. He has written award-winning books on stylistics and is Chairman of the English Language Committee, Maharashtra State Textbook Bureau in Pune.
