What Readers of Empowered: One Planet at a Time are Saying: You really painted a picture in my mind. I'm feeling inspired to make change. This book gave me tools and resources to put my activism into action and gave me hope that I am capable of making the change that I desperately wish to see. I truly enjoyed this book. It helped me trace the roots of who I am but more importantly why I am! I feel much more empowered, confident, and ready to get started to try and make changes than I did before. I was one of those people who wanted to make a change but felt too intimidated to move forward. The exercises make it seem much less daunting! The fact that EMPOWERED is so personal and relatable makes the experience much more personal for the readers, too. Sharing your stories as an elected official and how you listened to concerned citizens who came forward helps your audience see that standing for their beliefs and going to their elected officials isn't as scary as they thought. Love the uniqueness of including your music! This book had an impact on my own views regarding what I AM responsible for, and what I COULD BE responsible for, here on Earth. It is really helpful for the reader to see your personal struggles with activism, and your advice is inspiring. I think the rubrics were a really empowering element... The story in Chapter 3 was powerful and inspiring. It helped me realize that while it can be hard to be an advocate for the Earth, there is power in developing relationships with others to build a stronger voice. I am hopeful that I am able to make a difference because I know I am not alone. After reading the foreword...it's moving to hear someone in a similar age cohort have such strong opinions. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have environmental degeneration to deal with and in an ideal world we wouldn't have to wake up in the morning to solve uncomfortable and demanding problems, but I feel empowered, encouraged, and imbued with courage when someone so young shares such great ideals. Knowing that people who are on the 'path' think this way means to me that we, indeed, cannot be too loud. It was a wonderful read. While reading, you are our guide on our journey of growth, becoming empowered, and defining our core values: how cool is that? An easy read for those at different levels of their journey, this book lays a sturdy foundation for readers to build on. For readers whose journeys have already begun, this book allows them to reaffirm their beliefs and add on to them from there. Your exercises were a great way for readers to both look inside themselves and build a strong, knowledgeable plan. Each exercise seemed to be a very important step....

Author Information

Patty Dreier deeply cares about people and our Earth which is why she dedicated her life's capstone to empowering young adults to stand up for their planet and themselves. She knows that for young adults to have a brighter future, they need to be equipped and supported as change makers who will bravely and confidently step up to help us face challenges and seize opportunities. That is why she wrote Empowered: One Planet at a Time for young adults and their teachers and mentors. Over the past thirty years as an educator and leader, including eight years as an elected official representing 71,000 citizens in central Wisconsin, Patty has helped thousands of citizens build their knowledge and skills to stand up on local and global issues that matter to them. Sharing her local, state, national, and international experiences, she inspires readers to see themselves as citizens of Planet Earth with all the authority they need to be powerful agents for change. She has a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource Management/Environmental Education and is certified by John C. Maxwell as a coach, teacher, and speaker. The whole Earth is her home.
