Overview

In this book, Wilson gives a thoroughly biblical foundation for gospel movements. He takes us back to the New Testament and walks us through examples from missions history. He compares different types of gospel movements and demonstrates that, at their core, gospel movements make, mature, and multiply disciples. They are found not only in Africa and Asia, but also in Europe, the Americas, and throughout the world. Based on twenty years of experience, Wilson gives practical principles and real-life stories that will help church planting catalysts maximize their effectiveness as they come alongside emerging movements around the world. He shares the collective wisdom of national movement leaders and missionary catalysts to help us engage and assist developing movements without doing harm. This book offers a realistic portrayal of the challenges and sacrifices involved in launching gospel movements and constructive pathways to strengthen their growth. With insights from this book, movement leaders and external catalysts can contribute synergistically according to the stage of the movement--pioneer penetration, local multiplication, regional organization, or global participation. Humble facilitators who embrace biblical priorities and best practices will play a constructive role. Read this book prayerfully considering how God can use you to add value to a gospel movement.

Reviews

"""Emerging Gospel Movements is a welcome contribution to the growing literature on church-planting movements, with unique attention given to the role of catalysts who facilitate and help advance church multiplication. With numerous case studies and personal stories from around the world, Gene Wilson offers readers a both inspiring and informative resource."" --Craig Ott, Professor, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School ""Emerging Gospel Movements is a welcomed book in the emerging field of church-planting movements during what is considered the facilitator era of missions. . . . The realistic portrayal of movements in various continents and in a diversity of environments gives inspiration, instruction, and hope. This book will help pastors, missionaries, and movement leaders assess and engage wisely with God's amazing movement work."" --Roy Oksnevad, Director of Immigrant Mission, All People, EFCA ""The role of missionaries in many places is changing from frontline church-planting practitioners to coaches and catalysts of deeply committed national leaders and church planters. Wilson gives a thoroughly biblical foundation for what God is doing in these movements. . . . I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding and engaging these movements for maximum gospel impact."" --Kevin Kompelien, President, the Evangelical Free Church of America ""Movement ministry has already permanently shifted the focus of many in the Great Commission workforce. A good number of these leaders are not Western leaders. They observe the simple yet strategic ways that the gospel moved out in the first few centuries and seek to live that sort of ministry themselves. . . . A book on the topic which is neither critical nor nave championing has fertile soil in the missiological community right now."" --Ted Esler, President, MissioNexus ""It is time for some creative correctives to some practices in present church-planting movements, and encouragement as well. Wilson's work does both. We need a book like this."" --Tom Steffen, Professor emeritus of Intercultural Studies, Biola University ""Emerging Gospel Movements is likely to become the standard text in American seminaries for understanding contemporary gospel movements and the role that Westerners can play in contributing to such movements. Based on twenty years of observing dozens of developing gospel movements throughout the world, Wilson concludes that both national leaders and the catalysts who come beside them have important roles to play."" --David R. Dunaetz, Associate Professor, Azusa Pacific University ""Have you seen God at work through your ministry? You may be on the launching pad for greater things. Can you envision going beyond your means and capacity by becoming an activator, a catalyst, a facilitator, a bridge person? Wilson masterfully helps us see what our role could be in realizing emerging gospel movements. Read this book with an open heart, attuned to believing that God can use you to help foster a gospel movement."" --Dietrich Schindler, Europe-Wide Church Planting Consultant ""The missions world today is undergoing a major paradigm shift due to the amazing rise of the church in the Global South, and due to explosive church-planting movements (CPM) breaking out on nearly every continent. The problem is that most Western missionaries remain largely unaware of these movements . . . . I applaud this important contribution to missions thinking. I encourage mission workers to take this book seriously and will be recommending it to many!"" --D. E. Heidenreich, Movement Catalyst, New Generatio"
