OverviewExcerpt from Egypt to-Day: The First to the Third Khedive Ismail was in Abdin Palace, and his eldest son was in the palace at Koubbeh, when the telegrams reached Cairo. The deposed Khedive telegraphed at once to Constantinople that he submitted to the commands of his sovereign lord the Sultan. His son Tewfik visited him in the palace of which he had ceased to be the master, and Ismail greeted his successor with the phrase, I salute my Effendina, kissing his hands afterwards. The son and father con versed together for a short time, and then the father busied himself with preparations for leaving Egypt. What is most remarkable in this sudden change in the relative positions of the two is the circumstance of the deposition of the father, and the elevation of the son to sovereign rank in Egypt, having been effected through the medium of the electric telegraph. Queen Scheherazade never imagined a greater marvel. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
