OverviewEdward Thomas was a British poet, essayist and novelist who was killed in action in France, April 1917. Although commonly known as a war poet there is a significant rediscovery of Thomas as a nature writer, and indeed this area of his work was by far the most extensive. This miscellany has juxtaposed his poetry with his prose, and in doing so, has created a beautiful and exhilarating collection of some of his finest writing. The editor, Dr Anna Stenning is a writer and lecturer living in Ledbury, Herefordshire, where she enjoys walking, wildlife, and discovering new places. He is commonly considered a war poet, although few of his poems deal directly with his war experiences, and his career in poetry only came after he had already been a successful writer and literary critic. In 1915, he enlisted in the British Army to fight in the First World War and was killed in action during the Battle of Arras in 1917, soon after he arrived in France.
