His research focuses on the relationship between education, the geopolitics of knowledge and various forms of exclusion and marginalisation, drawing on decolonial theories. His book, Decolonising Intercultural Education: Colonial Differences, the Geopolitics of Knowledge, and Inter-Epistemic Dialogue, is forthcoming with Routledge. Timothy Ireland is Associate Professor at the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil, where he teaches on the postgraduate programmes in Education and Human Rights and is currently Director of the UNESCO Chair in Youth and Adult Education. His principal areas of research relate to education in prisons, the use of digital media in the literacy process, and international policy on adult lifelong learning and education.
