OverviewMuch ecological research has dealt with processes within relatively homogenous landscape units or composite landscapes. Now, however, there is an appreciation that abiotic and biotic components must move through heterogenous landscapes and that the boundaries or ecotones also provide important needs in the life cycles of many organisms. They are also generally characterized by high biological diversity. Because landscape boundaries are the site of intense biotic and abiotic interactions they may be particularly sensitive indicators of change in the global environment. This book surveys the characteristics of ecotones, describes how ecotones respond to environmental change, and suggests ways in which ecotones can be managed most appropiately. This book should be of interest to graduate courses in landscape ecology and natural resource management. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Marjorie M.
