During that time, he learned to be a policeman in the diverse, fast-paced environment that is Metropolitan Detroit, eventually promoting to the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Acting Chief of Police. Excellent instruction and leadership provided the example throughout his career, and he strived to pass those lessons along to the cops who came after him. Disser spent many years as a Task Force Officer in special units including the County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET), the Macomb County SWAT Team, and the Port Huron Major Crimes Unit. The extraordinary success of those units during his tenure was due to outstanding teamwork and the intelligence, courage, and skill of each team member. Disser received numerous citations for meritorious service from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, along with civilian groups such as the Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and individual citizens.
