Overview

"This is a unique book, drawing together the profound insights of Eastern philosophy (Advaita Vedanta), Western depth-psychology (Jungian), and spirituality (Ignatian) as applied to decision-making. Mention is made of Plato, C. G. Jung, Ira Progoff, Viktor Frankl, and Bernard Lonergan, amongst others. Powerful and practical tools and techniques for making wise decisions are offered. There are sections on Descartes's famous square, the ego and the Self, the I Ching and synchronicity, archetypes, neuroscience and the triune brain, biases and blind spots which can derail decision-making, together with chapters on creativity, the """"aha"""" experience, and the Enneagram with its nine decision-making styles. Dr. Costello is at pains to point out that heart (emotions), head (reason), and hands (action/doing) must be integrated before effective decision-making can take place and bear fruition."

"""This book is well written, has clear focus, and makes effective use of other philosophical and religious sources from both East and West. . . . The reader will find in Dr. Costello's book solid, practical advice when it comes to actual decision-making. . . . I recommend this book to all who wish to know more about the choices they have made and will continue to make as they discover who they are and who they want to become."" --John Hill, Jungian Analyst ""Dr. Costello brilliantly weaves the magic carpet of discernment dynamics using the threads of Enneagram, creativity, synchronicity, Theory U, and the triune brain. It offers an algorithm that guides one from chance to choice, from good to great and wise decisions, from problem solving to creativity and making choices that go beyond self to the welfare of family, society, humanity, and the world. This is an essential addition in the tool kit of individuals seeking a meaningful and reflective life."" --Ashok Bedi, MD, Medical College of Wisconsin ""Decisions are an unavoidable feature of everyday life. Some decisions may be life changing, so it is important that they should be made as well as possible. Drawing on a wealth of sources from philosophy, psychology, and spirituality, Dr. Stephen Costello offers his readers multiple approaches to the task of good decision-making. Practical exercises will help in choosing the method best suited to each person. His book is a treasury of insight and wise counsel."" --Kevin O'Higgins, Philosopher and Jesuit Priest"
