English summary: The unique collection of the Cathedral and Diocese Museum at Mainz is exhibited in its entirety in the historical rooms of the Cathedral Chapter - a unique occurrence in Germany! Most of the exhibits come from churches of the Diocese and were eventually given to the museum, which was founded in 1925. Here, the presentation in a museum creates a symbiosis with the original environment of the rooms in an impressive fashion: In the Medieval arched vaults in the basement, e.g., we find stone sculptures from Late Antiquity to Gothic times, but also the famous rood screen figures by the Master from Naumburg. In the upper cloister of the cathedral, we find the calvary scene of Hans Backofen, and paintings from the workshop of Lucas Cranach. The treasury is housed in the former Nicolaus Chapel from the early 15th century: ostensories, chalices, and precious gold jewellery sparkle in the light here.
