Overview

This book provides the basis of the design of rotating AC machines. The first chapter puts the emphasis on the air gap magnetomotive force (MMF) of Rotating AC machines and the second chapter deals with the formulation of the rotating fields that could be generated considering different technique. The third chapter of this book focuses on the arrangement of the armature winding of fractional-slot concentrated winding permanent magnet synchronous machines, which is achieved considering the star of slots approach. Each topic is explained by case studies that show how to implement the theory into real-world design of DC machines.

Author Information

Ahmed Masmoudi received the B.S degree from Sfax Engineering National School (SENS),University of Sfax, Sfax, Tunisia, in 1984, the Ph.D degree from Pierre and Marie CurieUniversity, Paris, France, in 1994, and the Research Management Ability degree from SENS,in 2001, all in electrical engineering. In August 1984, he joined Shlumberger as a fieldengineer. After this industrial experience, he joined the Tunisian University where he helddifferent positions involved in both education and research activities. He is currently aprofessor of electric power engineering at SENS, the head of the Research Laboratory onRenewable Energies and Electric Vehicles (RELEV) and the coordinator of the master onSustainable Mobility Actuators: Research and Technology. He published up to 85 journalpapers, 19 among which in IEEE transactions. He presented up 367 papers in internationalconferences, 9 among which in plenary sessions, and 3 have been rewarded by the bestpresented paper prize. He is the co-inventor of a USA patent. He is the chairman ofthe Program and Publication Committees of the International Conference on EcologicalVehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER), organized every year in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, since 2006. He was also the chairman of the Technical Program and Publication Committeesof the first International Conference on Sustainable Mobility Applications, Renewables, andTechnology (SMART) which has been held in Kuwait in November 2015. Its involvementin the above conferences has been marked by an intensive guest-editorship activity with thepublication of many special issues of several journals including the IEEE Transactions onMagnetics, COMPEL, ELECTROMOTION, and ETEP. Professor Masmoudi is a Seniormember, IEEE. His main interests include the design of new topologies of ac machines alliedto the implementation of advanced and efficient control strategies in drives and generators, applied to renewable energy as well as to electrical automotive systems.
