Overview

Author Information

Jeroen van Luiken-Bakker was born in Velsen, the Netherlands, on May 30th, 1981. Jeroen grew up in the village of Heemskerk and went to special educational primary school and thereafter went to Clussius College Secondary agricultural school and finally to Clusius College Hoorn MLTuS college of agriculture where he studied (TMR) Technician, Forest-, Park- and Greenkeeping and Tourism. Jeroen worked as a local journalist, editor and presenter at two local radio/tv stations and has worked for many years as a cleaner and exterminator. He was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2001 and with Autism in 2008. Both of which explained the many troubles Jeroen had to face as child. In March of 2013 he published a book on Autism in collaboration with 27 so called Autithors. He currently works as a writer, poet, translator, and aspires to be a composer, and currently runs his own (book) publishing company. Books: Jeroen's publishing company's English lingual publications include titles such as the 'Lembas Extra' communique of the Dutch Tolkien Society (Unquendor) and Peter Kenny's seconde edition of 'Dreams of Another Land'. The company's Dutch publications include titles such as 'De Qualia en het Spectrum' by Dutch poet Jeroen Besseling, 'Het is gelukkig niet bewolkt vandaag' by Dutch poet Bob Blinkhof, and the second edition of 'De wereld om met autisme'. Amongst Jeroen's own projects he invests lots of time and effort into the first ever attempt to translate and publish all of L. Frank Baum's 'Wizard of Oz' books into Dutch. Music: Jeroen took one year of (then) mandatory recorder lessons as young child prior to taking keyboard -not piano- lessons from Mr. Peter Stam at the Heemskerk School of Music between 1991 and 2002. In that era Jeroen started to compose his own music, at first, he started out by putting existing music together and eventually wrote his first composition in 1998 at the age of 17. Currently Jeroen is under the 'reasoning and guidance' of esteemed composer Mr. Paul Corfield Godfrey (Wales). Jeroen's recent musical works include a 'Requiem for Spock', for (Vulcan) lyrette and (Earth) violoncello, dedicated to the memory of Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy and a setting of the 'De profundis' poem for organ, timpany and choir (SATB). Jeroen also set to music a few poems from the Frysian translation of The Hobbit (as translated by Anne Tjerk Popkema). These 27 people all have in one way or another daily experience with autism. Some because they are professionals most because they have autism them selves or have a relative that has autism. The 27 are: Gonnie Bakker-Luiken Gaia van Basten Jena Boer-Kerk Leonie Bouwman Ingwer Broekema Simone Dijkhuizen Floris Dox Julia Eenhoorn Josefien Harmsen Stefanie Harmsen Tycho Hoogstrate Abe Ron K. Jeker Suzanne van der Kaaij Rene Job Krake Lisse Lotte Monique Luiken Louis van der Maat Paul Nelemans Egbert Reijnen Harry Schaap Volcmar Suijs Selena Swinkels Neeltje Verbeek Anouk de Wit Yentl Anoniem Jeroen van Luiken-Bakker
