Reviews

This book has the merit of revealing the complexity of urban societies in the pre-modern Middle East and drawing attention to a topic that has been poorly researched until now. . . . Elbendary s study of popular protest in the late Mamluk period is a welcome addition to the field. Anne Troadec, al- Usur al-Wusta
