Nearly unbelievable true story, told as a memoir that often reads like a thriller, CROOKED STRAIGHT tells of Maryse's unconventional coming of age through early loss of innocence, rebellion, survival, international drug trafficking adventures from Toronto to Amsterdam to Spain. But that's just the back story. We enter her life early one morning in Toronto when Maryse, age twenty-five, has managed to extricate herself from a life of hopelessness in the confines of the drug scene, a life she landed in because of her deep shame over her early experiences of abuse at the hands of her mother, grandfather, and others-events for which she shouldered the blame. Today, however, life hands her much bigger problems. Over a five-hour span, she's forced into choices she'd rather not make-choices that force her to look deeply within, to tear apart her past. Choices she must make immediately. Choices that could affect her very freedom, yet give her an opportunity to see justice served-though in a startling way-if only she'd help Toronto police in the arrest of a serial rapist.

Maryse Laflamme was born in Montreal, Canada, early on a chilly Tuesday morning in January. Drawn to the unconventional, to creative endeavors, and a bohemian at heart, she'd have spent her early adult years traveling the world whether those events she talks about in Crooked Straight happened. She got her Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Nevada, but not until overcoming the events in Crooked Straight, getting married, and having children. She ran a law firm for too many years and raised two exceptional human beings before dedicating her time to her first love: writing. CROOKED STRAIGHT, her first memoir, makes its official launch on September 1, 2020. Her second memoir, GOIN' IN STYLE-How to Live Creatively After a Devastating Diagnosis, is due for publication November 2021. When she's not elsewhere, Maryse lives in a cute town north of Dallas, Texas, in a house surrounded by beautiful mature trees, the songs of birds, and don't forget the squirrels! Known to go radio silent for no reason.
