About the Author Robert A. Fielden, NCARB, FAIA is a senior principal at RAFI: Planning, Architecture and Urban Design in Henderson, Nevada. RAFI is a second generation professional practice directed now by his daughter Laura Jane Spina. The firm is the recipient of more than fifty awards for contributions to planning and design excellence, service to the professions and for engagements within the community. RAFI's work focuses on sustainable planning and design guided by strong environmental principles and natural resource conservation. Fielden is a former member of the UNLV architectural faculty and an advisor to architectural programs seeking accreditation. A frequent public speaker and media resource, Fielden has broadcasted weekly commentaries on community development issues from KNPR: Nevada Public Radio for ten years. He also serves as a newspaper columnist for the Henderson Press. His undergraduate architecture degree is from Texas Tech University; he has a master's in Education Administration from UNLV and his Architecture Doctorate is from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Fielden is a past president of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects and the National Architectural Accrediting Board. Fielden lives in Las Vegas with his wife Jane, a former business partner prior to retirement, their two children, five grandchildren and two dogs: Chocolate and Chips. When not working, he's reading, painting, sculpting, outdoors cooking on his Bar-B-Q smoker or traveling to learn more about America and its hamlets, towns and cities.
