This book provides a new and comprehensive perspective on the genesis of modern architecture. This work ranges over much of the 19th, 20th and 21st century world's architectural heritage and greatest achievements. [...] It is written in a clear and engaging style, encouraging the reader to examine photographs and line drawings, showing step by step the innovative and aesthetic attributes of described periods, styles and buildings. Professor Marta Tobolczyk discusses the genesis of modern architecture in various contexts: artistic, economic, environmental, social and technological. This book also analyses and examines critically some extents to which architecture met {or did not meet) the needs of clients, future users, society at large and future generations. The global reach of the text is matched by a rich assortment of photographs and careful selection of detailed line drawings. Tobolczyk has created a formidable body of work, focused on the genesis of modern architecture and testifies the greatest achievements of famous architects, among them Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier Frank Lloyd Wright, Ralph Erskine, Louis Kahn and James Wines, Frank Gehry, Peter Eisenman, Daniel Libeskind, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, John Pawson, and Peter Zumthor.
