Overview

The night was pitch black. A light wind blew through the tops of the trees, caught further down between the tree trunks and turned into a hollow whistle. A few snowflakes sailed through the icy air and joined the white splendor that already covered the ground. In his lonely hiding place, Otter had curled up tightly, his nose pressed to his paws. Home was his only thought. I want to go back home. But how should he find his way back? He blinked unhappily into the darkness that enveloped him like a heavy black cloth. Hunger gnawed his stomach, his paws ached from the cold. Now and then he crawled out of his shelter, paced up and down a little, relieved himself and licked snow. But now, in the middle of the night, he didn't dare go out. Asso often in the last few hours he began to whine sadly, glad to hear at least his own voice. Suddenly he stopped. A faint, bright ringing sounded in the distance. Hadn't he heard that before? Otter raised his head and listened. The ringing grew louder, now it seemed to be directly overhead. Carefully crawled out of his hiding place and barked, but there was nothing to be seen far and wide. The ring hovered invisibly in the air above him. Excited, Otter hopped up and barked again. The next moment the doorbell stopped and everything was quiet again. Otter looked around, confused. What could that have been? He noticed that the snow was falling more heavily from the sky and withdrew to his hiding place. There he curled up again and closed his eyes. Strangely enough, he no longer felt quite so alone and discouraged. Tomorrow, tomorrow I can definitely go homes was his last thought before falling asleep.
