Chippee was born a chicken in a box with an artificial light and an artificial heater. She hatched next to other chickens who chirped happily and loved being in the warm, cozy, safe box. But, Chippee decided from the beginning that she would not settle for the hum-drum life of a chicken. Chippee longed for a different life! So...she hatched a plan. A plan of escape. A PLAN of Freedom! As Chippee tries to escape, she finds a different life, but will her plans lead her to a dangerous ending?

Jill Hawes met Chippee, the chicken, inside a second grade classroom in Marietta, Georgia, where she worked as a literacy coach. As she watched Chippee grow and fall in love with the children, she knew she had to write her story. When Jill is not writing books, you can find her playing and singing in a garage band with her husband or just enjoying time with her two grown daughters and grandchildren. Trudy Hughes had a love for drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. Trudy can often be found in her art studio creating watercolor or acrylic paintings. Her love for children's books and artwork merged when she agreed to illustrate the story of Chippee, the chicken. Other than painting, Trudy loves to sing, shop for bargains, or hang out with her childhood sweetheart husband, two grown children, and grandchildren.
