He served as the deputy director at the Institute from 1994 to 2003 and as secretary general of the Chinese Association of China-US HistoryStudies until 2012. He was born in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province in February 1943 and graduated from Department of Foreign Languages in Hangzhou University in 1964. From 1982 to 1984, he studied the history of China-US relations in Georgetown University and Stanfordas a visiting scholar. From September to December 1993, he conducted research on China’s foreign relations during the war to resist Japanese aggression at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in University of London. From June to September, 2002, he was as a visiting professor in the Wilson Center in Washington.
