Overview

Grover Nicodemus Street is a travel nurse who felt it necessary to help others in these turbulent times. He has gone to COVID hotspots in the US since the beginning of the pandemic to do so and also to help keep his wife, who is a cancer survivor safe from this deadly virus. He also encountered many unbelievable events, like being suddenly stuck in the middle of a Black Lives Matter protest in New York, the storms of Florida last summer, and the gigafire of California. Grover's wife, Dr. Sandra de Abreu Guidry-Street stayed at home and researched the virus while he was working on the front lines. Even though he tried as hard as he could to keep COVID-19 away from his wife, it was not possible. Grover felt compelled to write about his travels to share his experiences and shed light on the actual reality of the patients and healthcare workers who are behind the closed doors of hospitals. Chasing the Surge is a compelling story about this global pandemic but also to dispel misbeliefs about this virus and the vaccine. Being a Black American, Grover is dedicating a portion of the proceeds towards educating minority communities about coronavirus and the safety of the vaccine.

"""A sublime personal account about the frightening Covid-19 surge."" - Kirkus Reviews ""Chasing the Surge: Life as a Travel Nurse in a Global Pandemic is detailed, written in beautiful prose, and celebrating the courage of nurses. Grover Nicodemus Street R.N. provides strong insights into what it means to serve one's country in a time of deepest need. The writing is filled with historical elements and the depressing experience of the Covid-19 pandemic is captured with ingenuity and, at times, grim humor. This book is the best thing I have read about the pandemic; a story that should be shared."" -Reader's Favorite"

Author Information

As an ER and ICU travel nurse, Grover Nicodemus Street chased the coronavirus hotspots. Working in the medical field for over 25 years has helped him develop resilience, patience, and to be quick on his feet. Having multiple black belts in different disciplines also helps those feet move faster. He likes blueberry walnut pancakes and works out in his spare time, which is not much these days. It is his hope that his book, Chasing the Surge, helps you learn more about what is really going on behind the scenes in the hospitals right now and how to navigate through the COVID pandemic safely. Ja-ne always liked to write stories. After obtaining her degree in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans, she worked for twenty years in the mediums of photography, videography, and writing for other companies. Fulfilling their creative projects prompted Telly award winner, Ja-ne de Abreu, to manifest her own. Ja-ne now focuses on exploring the energy inside our choices and the resulting responsibilities and freedom by telling stories through various methods.
