Author Information

Brandon Ruiz has over 20 years of competition and coaching experience. He is a second degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and world class Greco Roman wrestler. In college he wrestled at BYU as a varsity wrestler and 4 year letterman from 1996 to 2000. Brandon graduated with a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. After college Brandon lived and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 2003 to 2006, where he trained in the Greco Roman style of wrestling. After completing his time training at the Olympic Training Center Brandon continued his athletic pursuits in the sports of Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, earning his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2008. Brandon also holds advanced rank in Judo and has trained in the Filipino martial art of Eskrima. Brandon has won four individual world championships and 10 world level medals in grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has competed and trained in Guatemala, Canada, Hungary, Greece, Serbia, and Switzerland. Additionally Brandon has coached several championship caliber athletes who have won state and national titles in wrestling, grappling and Mixed Martial Arts. Brandon and his wife Brynne live with their five children in Taylorsville, Utah.
