Author Information

Fleur is a high-energy and results-driven career coach with a passion for personal and organisational growth. She thrives in high-pressure situations and feels most fulfilled when she has played a role in assisting people and organisations to reach their potential. Throughout her younger years, Fleur's parents ran numerous successful small businesses, and she absorbed the imperatives of operational and people management through many dinnertime conversations as well as part-time work in family business ventures. These businesses ranged from garden centres, a pickle factory, a spice packing business, store protection services, ergonomic furniture sales and office design and fit-out services. After graduating in economics and Japanese, Fleur worked in a Japanese local government office and honed her understanding of Japanese language and culture. The bulk of Fleur's professional experience is in the higher education sector, for the first seven years in communications and student support at a young university, whose enrolments grew nearly three-fold during her four years in charge of course advisory and student recruitment. She presented to and advised thousands of high school and mature-age students about their career and course choices during this time. This ignited Fleur's passion for seeing people find a satisfying and rewarding path through their lives. Fleur then leveraged this experience, as well as the knowledge gained from two master's degrees, to position herself as a senior strategy and change adviser in the education sector. Her management roles gave her inside perspective on the hiring process, and what makes a candidate attractive to an employer. Fleur has personally reviewed thousands of job applications and resumes for more than 100 roles in her career journey, positioning her as a valued adviser to anyone seeking a job. Fleur first seriously considered writing a book when she was living in New Delhi, India, with her young family in 2012. Her parenting and work responsibilities took precedence and Fleur put the book-writing idea on hold. After a major client ended her consulting contract as a result of COVID-19 in March 2020, Fleur and her former colleague, Kym Kraljevic, decided to start a podcast about the impact of the pandemic on employment and the economy. Fleur realised there was a need for a career guidance reference source that reflected the way the world had changed, and the podcast morphed into the Career after COVID-19 paperback and e-book. Kym proudly calls herself a 'high-level generalist' who focuses on cultivating strong stakeholder relationships and building dynamic outcomes-focused projects and events. She seeks to work with like-minded people who also love to bring creativity and a growth mindset to build out ideas and bring them to life. Kym has worked in government and private enterprise, and had a successful career in higher education, where she set up a student entrepreneurship training program. Other projects have included conceptualising and orchestrating events for Sydney Start-up Week, such as the Big Red London double-decker bus tours of the Sydney ecosystem and walking tours of innovation districts. She partnered with an iconic female founders' program to support female entrepreneurship, studied innovation districts to apply these frameworks to the Sydney start-up ecosystem and undertook fundraising, gained sponsorships and executed major project management . Kym seeks diverse and challenging environments and she has turned her hand to economic policy for government, acting in Australian and international films, tv and commercials, coordinating equestrian events around the country, learning to code in Mexico, merchandising for high-end retailers and helping to set up an e-commerce platform for a major charity, as well as running her own consultancy and online businesses. Kym's understanding of what makes businesses work, across so many industries, enables her to drill down to the essentials of starting a business. She is passionate about helping aspiring entrepreneurs to get a business idea off the ground and has a deep understanding of business planning principles and innovation frameworks.
