Reviews

Peanut and nut allergies are an increasing problem in the UK and elsewhere. Whilst this is actually a very manageable condition, and most people with peanut allergies don't have regular allergic reactions, the fear of severe reactions can have a very negative impact on children their families and friends. This short book by Sharon Dempsey presents the child's view of what it's like to be diagnosed with peanut allergy and the impact on home and school life. I recommend it to anyone who has a newly diagnosed nut allergy in their families and to their carers and schools. - Dr David Edgar, Head of the Regional Immunology Service for Northern Ireland, Royal Hospitals, Belfast

Sharon Dempsey's new book Can I tell you about my Peanut Allergy? can help serve as a guide to opening up the lines of communication when dealing with a peanut allergy. Written from a young person's perspective, the book introduces you to Danny and the many scenarios he must face when living in a peanut-filled world while trying to avoid peanuts. The book illustrates the importance of advocating, communicating and being responsible for oneself while giving insight into helping a peanut-allergic individual manage their allergy and responding to potential allergic reactions.
