Overview"""You're going to love it."" Anytime Mom tries to convince us (mostly me) to try something new, like asparagus or a dress, she says, ""You are going to love it!"" This time, ""it"" is Camp Lewa. Jess and Liz, 10-year-old identical twins, are headed to Camp Lewa in Maine. Jess is nervous about being away from home, making new friends, and trying new activities like dance and hunting for frogs. But she has Liz, and Mom and Dad have promised they will be in the same cabin. It isn't until she gets to camp and finds out she is in Teals and Liz is in Cuckoos, that she realizes she is going to need to do new things on her own, for the first time. Without Liz, Jess discovers oatmeal, archery, how to pee anywhere, how to make the perfect s'more, and that making new friends is the best part of camp. Together, Jess and Liz they discover the power of being a twin, and of learning to be friends as well as sisters." Full Product DetailsAuthor: Jessica L BancroftPublisher: Jessica L. This years quarantine summer camp experience gave me an opportunity to work with elementary students, and we fell upon this book. The author develops the plot in a way that each child can relate to the characters and identify the same emotions and feelings felt by the characters in the book. Each chapter welcomes new conversations and discussions while building a sense of self and openness to our own individual thoughts and emotions in a fun child friendly story line. We have used some of the ideas in the book to build a sense of community In our own camp and the campers engage in conversations at lunchtime anticipating what will be in the upcoming chapter or what it would be like to be away at camp. That's a compliment to the author!! Reading this book together has created a bond between new campers and we are so happy that we came across this book! Looking forward to other books written by this author. - Catherine It not only brought back feelings I had before going to camp and during the first days of camp but I see the same nervousness, excitement, silliness, and good friendships made every summer as a camp director. The narrative voice is so engaging and easy to read. It brings back memories for anyone who has ever been to summer camp and it gives a sneak preview of the roller coaster ride one takes when entering into the best summer of their lives. -Heidi Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
