Overview

Special Papers in Palaeontology, published by The Palaeontological Association, is a series of substantial separate works conforming to the style of the Palaeontology journal. Two issues are published each year and feature high standard illustrations. In this issue, the diverse and excellently preserved brachiopod fauna from the Botomian - Arenig of southern Kazakhstan is described fully for the first time. The fauna is dominated by linguliform and rhynchonelliform taxa in which seven biostratigraphically successive assemblages can be recognised. The varied brachiopod associations from different segments of the Central Asian tectonic collage indicate diverse biogeographic affinities of the different components of the overall faunas across Cambrian time.
