Michael Willhoite is the author/illustrator of five previous children's books and one coloring book. Daddy's Roommate was a pioneering book for children with gay parents and was for several years was one of the most challenged books in schools and libraries. It has been translated into German, Danish, Swedish, and Chinese. His coloring book, Families, was translated into Icelandic. In addition, he illustrated Belinda's Bouquet, a children's book by Leslea Newman. He has published two novels for adults and illustrated a number of other books. His caricatures for The Washington Blade were collected in two books, Members of the Tribe and Willhoite's Hollywood. He worked as a medical illustrator for the US Navy and as general artist for the US Army. In addition, he has designed many theatre posters and several set designs in the US and England.
