OverviewThis book takes a new look at infamous British carers, from the mid nineteenth century to the present time. From a wide variety of sources, the author has put together a detailed study of seven perpetrators and their crimes, along with others of not dissimilar notoriety, both from Britain and elsewhere. Of the cases chosen for extended presentation some are afforded additional coverage for the first time, notably the murderous career of plausible would-be-nurse, Catherine Wilson, and that of sick bay attendant, John Armstrong, whose trial and conviction still leave a number of unanswered questions. Others are probably better known. They all remain thought-provoking nonetheless, and are presented here in a way freshly calculated to hold the attention of every connoisseur of true crime, from a calling which has in fact produced but a notably small minority of reprobates during its long history.
