Table of ContentsReviewsThis work represents a disturbing but accurate account of one of the most notorious serial killers to have ever traversed our national Interstate Highway System. The author, James Patrick, has done a masterful job in presenting the 5 W'S and 1H , (Who, What, When, Where and How) for this case study. James' intent is to educate, inform, and instruct both law enforcement and the public about a very dark side of humanity that preys upon the vulnerable. He effectively examines investigative considerations to identify, pursue and apprehend these roaming predators, thereby preventing further victimization. Moreover, he identifies behaviors that elevate a potential victim's risk level to the point of no return. The details presented herein are unnerving and will leave an indelible mark on your psyche. As you travel alone, along a sparsely populated highway, you will never again completely enjoy the same level of serenity often associated with uninterrupted drives. If you are like me, you have enjoyed that quiet, undisturbed floating time. Until now, it has allowed you to escape from your hectic life into uninterrupted random thoughts while enjoying a hypnotic state of relaxation. Not anymore. Now, when passing by an abandoned barn on a rural and isolated highway, an interstate hitchhiker, stranded motorist, or semi-truck gliding down the roadway, you will be jerked out of that roadway nirvana into a stark recollection of the case details of this book. You will be questioning and doubting, speculating, and even challenging certain situations and circumstances, or people. Heretofore, such casual observations may not have even caught your attention, much less occurred to you as strange, suspicious, or troubling. From now on you will be seeing life through a different pair of lenses. You are transformed and you are not the same person as you were before reading this book. In fact, armed with this new perspective, you may very well save your life, a stranger or someone you care about. As a former FBI profiler, Supervisor of the FBI's Criminal Profiling, ViCAP and Arson/Bombing Programs, instructor for the FBI National Academy, Chief of Police, and now as the Executive Director of the Cold Case Foundation, I enthusiastically endorse this book and highly recommend it to you. Gregory M. Cooper Author Information"James Patrick is an intelligence specialist who served as a police officer for a decade. On leaving Scotland Yard he was commended by the British Parliament. He now focuses on threat mitigation and intelligence analysis, specialising in the digital and information landscapes. He served as a police officer from May 2004 to October 2009 in the Derbyshire Constabulary, where he qualified as a Sergeant under the OSPRE Part 1 and 2 examination regimes. During this time, he was commended for his work as an intelligence officer. In October 2009 he transferred to the Metropolitan Police Service in London and received three commendations in September 2010 for bravery in apprehending an armed suspect, leadership and fortitude at the scene of a fatal fire, and bravery at a life-threatening incident. In 2012 he was recruited by the Assistant Commissioner to work on a new strategic department following his presentation of a predictive policing model and enhanced intelligence briefing system.During his time as a specialist analyst for Scotland Yard he discovered the mass under-recording of serious sexual offences and serious acquisitive crime. He eventually acted as a whistle-blower, sparking a Select Committee inquiry by the British Parliament which exposed thirty years of crime figure manipulation across the country. As a result, the way crime is recorded and investigated in England and Wales was permanently changed and government-imposed targets were abolished. The Committee's final report commended James before Parliament, stating: ""We are indebted to PC Patrick for his courage in speaking out, in fulfilment of his duty to the highest standards of public service, despite intense pressures to the contrary."" He retired from the force in 2014 after the inquiry concluded and then Home Secretary, Theresa May, made a commitment to revise the treatment of whistle-blowers in policing due to his case.
