Overview

Bop, the Kangaroo That Couldn't Hop is the story of a young kangaroo that has Muscular Dystrophy. Bop starts in a new school and feels lonely because he doesn't have any friends. The other joeys seem to be nervous around him. To make matters worse, the school bully decides to make fun of him. But Bop meets some new friends who help him on the playground. And he decides to enter the school talent show. After Bop performs an original song, he talks to the audience about his disability. Bop, the Kangaroo That Couldn't Hop will help kids of all ages learn that kids who have disabilities aren't so different from themselves. We all want to have friends, and Bop's example will help those with disabilities learn there is still a lot they CAN do. The information in the back of the book will help parents, as well.

Michael Truitt was diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy when he was six years old. Growing up with MD, he was the target of many bully attacks and then became his brother's defender by protecting him from bullies for a good part of their childhood. These types of hurtful experiences have not challenged Michael's steadfast belief that physically limited individuals can be vessels of deep faith and inspiration to others.
