Overview

When Chelsey Glasson landed her dream job at Google, she was thrilled to join what she viewed as a progressive and inclusive organization. But from the moment she received her job offer, she began to experience instances of discrimination and harassment-eventually culminating in a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit. Friends, family, and even lawyers told Chelsey to move on, but she knew holding Google accountable was the path to proper healing. Although Google spent significant resources to discredit and silence her, the truth eventually prevailed. Black Box is a story of triumph over a tech giant, a cautionary tale of how misconduct against women and minorities persists in the workplace, and a rallying call to break down the many barriers to justice. No one wins when discrimination and harassment are allowed to run rampant. For those who have suffered silently, Black Box offers a critical perspective to consider in choosing your own path forward.

Reviews

"""Glasson's memoir is well organized, reaching back into her past for context, explaining her career path, and breaking down company jargon and processes with lucidity. Glasson also shows laudable self-awareness throughout, taking note of her own privilege and admitting to mistakes, and this is what renders her book so useful: The author claims not to speak for everyone, but she offers advice and foregrounds the experiences of others facing discrimination, particularly in her final chapter and an appendix. Overall, this is a memoir and advice book that's sure to reveal to many readers just how common pregnancy discrimination is."" -Kirkus Reviews ""Black Box is more than a story about pregnancy discrimination; it's a book about why corporations continue to get away with allowing discrimination and harassment to occur within their walls."" -Gretchen Carlson, acclaimed journalist, bestselling author, empowerment advocate, and Co-Founder of Lift Our Voices ""Pregnancy discrimination is not a women's issue-it is a public health issue. Beautifully written, Chelsey illustrates, through her painful and arduous journey, how discrimination and harassment during pregnancy can have serious impacts on mothers, their partners, their babies, and all the relationships within the family unit."" -Dr. Shoshana Bennett (Dr. Shosh), perinatal psychologist, author, and speaker ""This inside look at work culture and how it affects personal lives will pull you in and keep you there. An eye-opening look at the tech industry and the discriminations that still pervade the workforce, Black Box is an informative and gripping read that will have you seeing red flags in your own life more clearly."" -Independent Book Review"
