And worse, Billy feels he has to keep his loss a secret from his parents and granddad. Max Turner, Billy's best friend's sister, wants to help Billy, and she tells Billy's granddad. Max and Granddad hatch a plan to recover the present. What is Max's plan? Does the bully get what's coming to him? Will Billy get his present back? Billy Has A Birthday is the first title in the Billy Books series. Each book addresses a unique topic--bullying, arrogant pride, jealousy, lying, stealing, lack of self-belief, understanding money, and secrets. Written to help parents, guardians and teachers deal with the issues that challenge pre-teen children, each topic is presented in a gentle way through storytelling. Setting the issues in a meaningful context helps children to understand the challenges, and to see things from a different perspective. The books act as icebreakers allowing for discussions on difficult subjects. Additionally, each title is supported by a free activity book to reinforce the learning, while having fun. Buying this book today will support your child in the battle against bullying; a destructive and unpleasant behaviour. It gives some very simple actions that will help the person being bullied to deal with the problem in a proactive way rather than a reactive way. Alongside the wonderful story there are lots of fabulous illustrations that give that little bit extra to the book and will help engage the younger readers even more. Patricia Walker This book is an elegant, well-written examination of the subject of bullying among children. I gave it to my daughter to read and she really enjoyed this simple, straightforward story that seeks to entertain and advise children about something that everyone experiences at one point in their life. Ian Probert, Billy's Tenth Birthday is a wonderful example of a story that young children can enjoy reading together with their parents. The book carries Minter's trademark wit, and is well written and accessible, but it also deals with a serious issue that will affect many children as they grow up. Bullying can be a difficult subject for children to talk about, many may feel frightened or embarrassed if they fall victim to bullying. Minter's book acts as the perfect icebreaker for adults and children to begin discussing these issues. Jude Fawley This excellent little book will be of great help to parents when reading to their children. A story like this is the best way of getting useful thought into a child's head, and dealing with bullying is so important. Anthony Sims Author InformationI am a dad of two grown children, and a stepfather to three more. I started writing five years ago with books designed to appeal to the inner child in adults - very English humour. My daughter Louise, reminded me of the bedtime stories I told her, and suggested I write them down for others to enjoy. I haven't yet, but instead I've written eight tiles in the Billy Books series for 8 to 11-year-olds boy and girls. These are traditional stories addressing negative behaviours, but with positive outcomes. Although the main characters Billy, Ant and Max are made up, Billy's dog, Jacko, is based on our much-loved family pet, who, with our second dog Malibu, caused havoc and mayhem to the delight of my children and consternation of me. Prior to writing, I was a college lecturer, and later worked in the computer industry, at a time before smartphones and tablets, when computers were powered by steam, and stood as high as a bus. I believe in, and strongly support the values based education program founded by Dr Neil Hawkes being introduced to UK and world-wide schools.
