Overview

The Bible provides a clear picture of how the local church should be governed, yet many churches neglect the Biblical model of elder-led church governance in favor of a deacon-led model. Biblical Shepherding confronts the deacon-led model of local church leadership and provides an in-depth, Biblical study of the local church office of elder and its purpose, roles, and responsibilities by examining every passage in Scripture where shepherds are mentioned. The intention of Biblical Shepherding is to provide ministers and laypeople, alike, a Biblical look at what it means to shepherd a local church by serving in the office of elder. Biblical Shepherding is intended to be a resource for churches who either already employ an elder-led model and wish to educate members about their current leadership structure, or are in the process of reforming their leadership model and wish to educate church members throughout their reformation process. In addition, Biblical Shepherding is meant to be a training resource to equip men currently serving as elders, as well as men aspiring to serve their churches as elders, with a complete, Biblical understanding of the roles and responsibilities of elders to the local church.
