OverviewTranslations of the bible into common speech are no phenomenon that only occured during Reformation. They were discussed throughout all centuries of church history. This volume presents discussions from Late Antiquity till today. Apparently, there was a rivalry between different translations, written for example in Latin or Syriac, since Antiquity. The Wittenberg reformators not only recorded precisely their struggle of translating the Bible into German, but were also planning a new Vulgata. In the 20th century interesting debates werde led in a Greek-Orthodox and Nazi context. The volume offers substantial insights about the transfer of the Bible from one language-culture to another.
