Overview

The works in this LARGE PRINT VERSION anthology explore the theme of 'Beneath the Surface' in a diverse array of engaging short stories, poems, travel stories, biography, and memoir. The authors are all members of the Lake Macquarie Branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers which is celebrating twenty years of providing comradeship and support to local writers as they develop their writing skills. 'The book will appeal to readers of many different genres and tastes, and can be read slowly, in small moments that transform the everyday into something a little richer, or read quickly in one intense sitting. Either way, Beneath the Surface is a delight.' (from the Foreword by Magdalena Ball, novelist, poet and editor of Compulsive Reader)

Reviews

'The group's base in Lake Macquarie is a clear stimulus for its members, with the water, surrounding bush and small communities the setting or starting place for many of the stories. But the authors and editors haven't been restricted by geography, taking readers on intriguing journeys far away in distance, time and imagination.' (Jaye Ford, bestselling author of psychological thrillers) 'Beneath the Surface is full of surprises and unexpected delights ... funny, poignant and engaging.' (Ryan O'Neill, shortlisted Miles Franklin Award, 2017) 'In dire times the escapism afforded by these stories, poems and memoir is heartening.' (Jan Dean, celebrated Lake Macquarie poet)
