OverviewThis study examines the empowering effects of film and video among participants of various adult education programs in Zimbabwe. In the course of a project in the field of legal education, audio-visual educational material for the Zimbabwean feature film Neria was developed and distributed to the grassroots, and was also used in a nationwide multimedia educational awareness campaign. By using mainly qualitative data gathering methods, the authors examine how the film changed the attitudes of those who viewed it. Hausmann analyses the findings with respect to empowerment and provides recommendations for changes in the legal system as well as in the use of video in development cooperation.
