Behind the Teacher's Desk by Chris Williams is the first book I've read from this author, and it was fantastic. Right away it felt different than the normal kind of book I read---- In fact, I'd have kind of a hard time categorizing it exactly as there are so many elements involved. I have never read another book where the heroine was a teacher-at least not where her work was any sort of focus, and I must say I liked it. I think it's so easy to take for granted what teachers do day in and day out. This novel shows us just what a jungle it can be, from out of control and even violent kids, crazy colleagues, and heartbreaking realities of her students' lives. Throw in some romance drama of her own and it's a wild ride from start to finish! I loved reading it and will definitely be reading more from Chris Williams. (5 stars)

Chris Williams is the pen name for Ghi Dean. Ghi Dean, whose 'teachables' are French and Spanish, has been an educator for over 35 years in elementary, secondary, (Core French and Immersion) special ed, prison, and vocational school. At each level, she made the program of the day work. She has published materials for the language classroom and illustrated several French publications. She is also the author of Deprived of a Fighting Chance In her private life she is a widow with three married children and 9 grandsons - on whom she practices her French materials.
