He received his B.S. degree from Zhejiang Agriculture University in China, and went on to earn his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois, as well as doing post-doctoral studies there. He served as a Senior Researcher for Caterillar Inc, and as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Agricultiral Engineering at the University of Illinois.
