A 7th degree Black Belt, he has a bachelor's degree in engineering from Arizona State University, a Master's Degree in Counseling from ASU's Education College and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on psychology. He was recognized by the American Taekwondo Association (the largest single style martial arts organization in the world) as the Instructor of the Year in 2000.
