Overview

"This book is a unique contribution to the study of children's and youth ministry, displaying the rich theological thinking that is developing amongst Australian evangelical scholars. Many of the writers have previously presented at the Youthworks """"House"""" conference, which promotes """"theological reflection for best practice in youth and children's ministry in a community of youth and children's ministers."""" The themes explored in this book are vitally important to pastors seeking to nurture young people as disciples of Jesus. Thirteen evangelical scholars answer questions such as: How can biblical theology shape a young person's view of themselves? What is the biblical definition of church and how does this shape our understanding of intergenerational gatherings, family, and community? How should young Christians interact with the culture around them? And how do biblical teachings on sin, grace, and wisdom provide young people with the resources to live in today's world? You will be challenged to reconsider how theology and exegetical study of the Bible can mold your priorities, principles, and presumptions as you exercise ministry to and with young people."

Reviews

"""When it comes to the physical health of young people, we want a pediatrician with rigorous, specialist training to care for them. It should be no different when it comes to their spiritual health. This volume evidences a high view of Scripture, depth of scholarship, and commitment to efficacy in practice that are hallmarks of Youthworks' House conference, dedicated to the rigorous, specialist training of youth and children's ministers. I commend it to you."" --Craig Roberts, CEO, Anglican Youthworks ""This is a rich and satisfying feast of essays. There is not one weak contribution here; each was stimulating and thought provoking. Whilst this is from Australia it is not just for Australia, but will benefit thoughtful youth ministers across the globe."" --Robin Barfield, lecturer in practical theology, Oak Hill College ""In Australian Evangelical Perspectives on Youth Ministry, Ruth Lukabyo has curated a great resource for youth ministry leaders and the church. Some books avoid being specific, but the truth is we learn best in the contextual details. By articulating an Australian perspective, the authors help all of us learn a more comprehensive view of youth ministry centered around identity, church, culture, and discipleship. You will be challenged in thought, theology, and practice by this great resource!"" --Brian Hull, professor of pastoral and Christian ministries, Asbury University"
