OverviewThis assessment of coastal water resources and watershed conditions in Kenai Fjords National Park (KEFJ) is provided in response to the National Park Service (NPS) Natural Resource Challenge, initially funded by the U.S. Congress in 2003 to assess the environmental conditions of NPS units. KEFJ is part of the Southwest Alaska Network (SWAN), which also includes the Alagnak Wild River (ALAG), Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve (ANIA), Katmai National Park and Preserve (KATM), and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve (LACL). The SWAN units are currently implementing a Vital Signs Monitoring Program, part of the NPS Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program, in which baseline inventories and long-term monitoring are being designed and conducted.
