Overview

In this autobiography, he paints an intimate picture of the UPA government during one of its toughest phases and his own, crucial, role in steering India through some of her most severe crises – the Great Recession of 2008, the oilmen’s strike in 2009 and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks – and scams – the 2G Spectrum case and the 2010 Commonwealth Games corruption scandal. This book describes Chandrasekhar’s experiments in public administration, cutting his teeth in trade diplomacy as the Indian ambassador to the World Trade Organization, his excellent working equation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, his run-ins with some prominent ministers of the time, and his reflections on Indian democracy, economy and defence.

Reviews

“As good as my word”by KM Chandrasekhar is an amazing book which chronicles some of the turning points in our country’s recent history through his own first hand experience and in an inimitable style that keeps the reader glued to the seat. It is undoubtedly a must-read for those in the executive, judiciary , legislative and the fourth estate , those aspiring to be in governance and those governed. Peppered with personal anecdotes and professional highs, the book is also rich in the wisdom the author shares and his vision for the country he so devotedly served. India needs more of such visionary men and women at the helm of administrative affairs in government for whom nothing matters more than fulfilling the needs of their country men through their innovative thinking, determination, never- say-die attitude as well as masters of the fine art of diplomacy and making friends even of the worst critics. An enriching and inspirational story of a man , a country and a state, all full of dreams to fly high , with resilience and courage. Asha Kishore.
