After completing his medical degree and specialization in psychiatry, both at the University of Naples (Italy), he completed a PhD in Behavioral Sciences with honors at the same university, and at Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden) and the University of Bern (Switzerland). He subsequently completed research fellowships at the Department of Psychiatry of UCAL (Los Angeles, USA) and at Institute of Psychiatry (London, UK). In 2008, he became a staff psychiatrist at the University of Naples and began focusing on psychiatric rehabilitation (including various forms of art therapy).
