Table of ContentsReviews'Applied Hydrology is a well-written textbook that provides an in-depth treatment of the principles of applied hydrology, with excellent illustrations, examples, exercises, and numerous references. This book will serve students - both graduate and undergraduate - as well as practicing professionals, and is a valuable reference for the members of the research community.' Venkataraman Lakshmi, University of Virginia; President-Elect, Hydrology Section, American Geophysical Union 'Altogether different from many other books which address hydrology: this book addresses all essential theories and methods of applied hydrology in detail, and at the same time seamlessly integrates the principles with practice using the current industry standard software. All examples given in the book are drawn from real-world cases based on the first author's rich experience in working on engineering hydrology for over three decades in various corners of the globe. In addition to the fundamental concepts, the book delves deep into many contemporaneous topics such as climate change, reservoir operations, and model optimization techniques. The book is suitable both for an advanced course in applied hydrology at a university and as a companion for practicing civil, environmental, and agricultural engineers.' Ataul Hannan, Director, Planning Division, Harris County Flood Control District 'The book Applied Hydrology by Biswajit Mukhopadhyay and Vijay Singh is a very comprehensive handbook on hydrologic methods. Dr. Mukhopadhyay and Dr. Singh have created a book which is one of the most thorough and in-depth coverages of a wide range of hydrologic methods and topics. Not only is this book a great reference, but it is also an excellent how-to for hydrologists across the US and many other countries.' Jerry L. Cotter, Chief of Water Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District 'Applied Hydrology by Mukhopadhyay and Singh provides an advanced quantitative and mathematical treatment of estimation problems that hydrologists have to deal with. The choice of material is thoughtful and comprehensive, emphasizing both conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills. The book will help prepare both undergraduate and graduate students for the problems they will face in practice.' Murugesu Sivapalan, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign 'The book Applied Hydrology by Mukhopadhyay and Singh provides a clear in-depth presentation of the full range of topics encountered in the professional practice of hydrologic engineering, supported by relevant articulations of foundational principles of mathematics, statistics, and hydrologic science.' Ralph A. Wurbs, Texas A&M University Author InformationDr. Biswajit Mukhopadhyay is a licensed professional engineer and certified floodplain manager with expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources engineering and management. He has over three decades of experience in working on solutions to real-world problems iin hydrology all over the world, from Alaska to Auckland, and China to Chile. He is one of the first 100 recipients of the Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) Board Certification conferred by the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has authored over fifty technical articles in international journals, over 100 engineering reports, and presented key findings and critical observations at local, regional, national, and international conferences and seminars. He taught surface water hydrology, groundwater hydrology, and open channel hydraulics classes at the University of Texas at Arlington and Southern Methodist University. He regularly teaches professional development classes focusing on hydrology and hydraulics at his current place of work. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Vijay P. Singh is a Distinguished Professor, a Regents Professor, and the inaugural holder of the Caroline and William N. Lehrer Distinguished Chair in Water Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He has published extensively in the areas of hydrology, irrigation engineering, hydraulics, groundwater, water quality, water resources, entropy theory, and copula theory with more than 1490 journal articles; 37 books; 85 edited reference books; 122 book chapters; and 330 conference papers. He has received more than 110 national and international awards, including the Norman Medal, the Chow Award, the Torrens Award, the Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award, the Outstanding Projects and Leader (OPAL) Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Roy C. Tipton Award (all from theAmerican Society of Civil Engineers); the Hancor Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers; the Merriam Improved Irrigation Award from the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage; the Linsley Award, the Wetzel Award, and the Founders Award from the American Institute of Hydrology; the Crystal Drop Award and the Chow Memorial Award from the International Water Resources Association; the Outstanding Scientist Award from Sigma Xi; the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Chinese Academy of Science; the Distinguished Professor Award from the Mexican Academy of Science; and the Professor Gajendra Singh Gold Medal for Education from the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers. He has served as President of the American Institute of Hydrology; President of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers; President of International Association for Water, Environment, Energy, and Society; and Chair of the Watershed Council of American Society of Civil Engineers.
