OverviewThe aim of this project is found out effect of non-biodegradable organic solids (NBOS) in mixing water on cement mortar. Various codes (IS: 456, BS: 3148, ASTM C94, EN1008) have given standards for mixing water for concrete. Indian standard code IS: 456-2000 has given a permissible limit of organic solids i.e., 200mg/L, but organic matter has biodegradable and non-biodegradable organic solids. IS: 456 has not mentioned the permissible limit of non- biodegradable organic solids in mixing water on cement or concrete. Hence, the experimental study was carried out on the effect of non-biodegradable organic solids in mixing water on cement mortar. Compressive strength and setting times were performed in the laboratory. Results reveal that the compressive strength at 500 mg/L concentration is 55.65 MPa and 0.46% strength greater compared to reference cubes cast with Rainwater. The Initial and final setting times at concentration 500 mg/L are 150 minutes and 330 minutes respectively. The initial and final setting times at these concentrations got 43 minutes and 28 minutes greater than the reference cement.
