Author Information

Renee Davenport's themes for her coloring books are Victorian, vintage, and retro style coloring books. Retro is referring to 1950's and 1960's artwork. Victorian and vintage are around 100 years old or more. Most of her books have people in them, but some have animals, flowers, and holiday themes. Images for her books are compiled in a couple of different ways. One way is to find public domain images and the other is to find illustrators who sell their artwork for commercial use. She purchases their artwork and the license to use their work commercially. Then compiles many images together to design coloring books. Picking out the images for the books is a skill in itself. More time is spent on finding images than making the coloring books. She has a great eye for finding images to use especially for vintage and retro coloring books. The Victorian images pre-date 1923 and the retro images pre-date 1963. After compiling the images they are turned into grayscale coloring pages. There's also a skill in making the grayscale look right for the books. It's hard to make a gray image look appealing to coloring artists. A lot of adjustments are made to every picture and then put into a book for you to color. All of her covers are designed by her and are unique to her style. Her hope is that coloring artists find enjoyment in making the grayscale pictures come to life with their coloring flair. She is not an illustrator, she doesn't consider herself to be an artist, but a designer instead. She's learned many skills the time she's been curating and designing coloring books. She loves designing coloring books and hopes to continue doing so long into the future. Feel free to contact Renee at JoyfulColoringBooks@gmail.com
