Die Erstbeschreibung beruht auf einem nahezu vollst ndigen Fossil das in der Tiaojishan-Formation in Jianchang in der chinesischen Provinz Liaoning gefunden wurde. Das Fossil befindet sich heute im Pal ontologischen Museum von Liaoning. Es gibt nur eine Art Anchiornis huxleyi.
