Instead of playing quiet games like the other girls, Amelia built a roller coaster in her backyard and scared her family half to death. Indeed no one should really have been surprised when grown up Amelia announced that she wanted to take flying lessons. Amelia not only worked to pay for her lessons but she also learned how to repair and take care of airplanes, much to the amazement of the mechanics who had never seen a woman do such work. It wasn't long before Amelia began to get a name for herself as famous pilot and when she was asked to be the first woman to cross the Atlantic in an airplane she gladly accepted. The trip was dangerous and Amelia was a great help as a navigator and assistant but she couldn't help wishing that was one who sitting behind the controls. Just four years later Amelia got her wish when she began her solo flight across the Atlantic. It took her fourteen hours and fifty four minutes and she broke yet another world record while she was at it. Being the first woman to cross the Atlantic wasn't enough for Amelia though. She wanted to do more. This time she wanted to go around the world and this time it was a journey that she did not complete.
