Overview

"Am I On The Autistic Spectrum? is a question millions of people have asked themselves, knowing there was something about their personality and behaviour that they just couldn't put their finger on. The numbers of children being diagnosed continues to rise every year, and we are all searching for answers as to why we are fundamentally different from our peers. Generations of us have had no diagnosis ourselves - could our gender, obsessive traits, addictions difficult behaviours be contributing to our anxiety and depression? Might pharmaceutical, environmental or genetic approaches provide some of the answers? Or could our complex personality traits relationships with others, or the way we communicate hold the answers? And could autism be the prime catalyst in the laws of attraction? Am I On The Autistic Spectrum? develops the idea that we are all, to some extent, on the spectrum. Science has yet to catch up with reality to give us the answers we need. Danielle Hampson helps us to find the vital answers we need in order to understand fundamentally what being on the autism spectrum really means and where we and our family members might fit in on it, proposing what the Autistic Spectrum could actually look like to the average person. ""All current themes"" ""Tony Attwood"" - International Autism Expert!"

An insightful new voice gives a comprehensive guide to Autism. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 February 2020 Format: Paperback As I said this book covers a whole host of topics from the diagnostic aspects to sexuality and beyond. Danielle's book truly is a fascinating read covering a depth and breath not only seen in her research but in the personal touches she flourishes the reader with from her own experiences. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about Autism spectrum disorder/condition. if I have any negatives about this it's the sometimes academically dry tone that on occasions reads like an extend essay. which might not be to some readers tastes. An interesting read Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 February 2020 Format: Paperback An interesting look at the many shared characteristics between autism and numerous psychological/psychiatric/ emotional conditions. She explains the fundamentals of each well and how they overlap with the autistic spectrum, exploring elements of autistic traits in all of us. As the author herself states there is need for more evidence and research in these areas but her hypotheses are well reasoned and don't shy away from the controversial. She draws from both research and personal experience and is thought provoking in her conclusions. I do however, disagree with her portrayal of Anfrew Wakefield and the role of vaccination, which is an area where there has been a lot of research. Well written and easy to read Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 February 2020 Format: Paperback As a dyslexic on the spectrum, I worried I may struggle with this book but it is very well written and very easy to follow and understand. The many areas are described clearly and in simple terms and I never felt the details were too academical. The author explains the differences between the ranges of autism, aspergers etc and the areas where they can cross over. A lot of everyday issues I have experienced make a lot more sense to me now and I would recommend this book as a great way to learn about yourself or your loved ones without feeling like you are being talked at rather than talked to.
