"A great alphabet book for young readers! This book along with its companion about the capital letters make a wonderful addition to classroom shelves. Children need to know the alphabet letters, and their sounds, to learn how to read. Phonemic awareness is a very crucial, pre-reading skill. Kids learn best when they are having fun! This book does that and more! What an entertaining book, that brings the lower case letters to life! Learning 26 letters and sounds is a big job for children, and they need to know upper and lower case letters. This author's books are enjoyable, making the process and connections easier. I am a mom to 6 kids, and was a teacher for 32 years. I have a BA in early childhood and elementary education, and an MA in education and reading. I know what children need, to develop into readers. The clever rhymes in this book incorporate words that start with the letter, including verbs that tell what each letter does. I like how the letters are personified, and both genders are alternatively used! The detailed illustrations are adorable, and kids will later visualize the pages in their minds, making recognition of the letters faster! The combination of visual and auditory learning is brilliant! Here is an example: ""h-hopscotch"" ""h hops down and jumps right, playing hopscotch 'til noon, while happily humming a humorous tune."" I think for the rest of my life, I will remember the lower case ""h"" humming and hopping on a hopscotch! This book works! Kids and adults will delight in this book, and could spend hours looking at it, and learning from it. The author gives amazing ideas and tips in the introduction for adults to help children use the book to its fullest. Then more information is shown at the back, for promoting early literacy! I love the ideas and activities given for creative play and conversations about the alphabet. Just like the other capital letters book, this one of lower case letters, is very special, and very important for homes and classrooms! This book introduces lower case letters to young children in a fun, engaging, and stress free way. Reading should be fun. Learning letters and building phonemic awareness is key to learning to read. Learning to read is the pathway to building a lifelong learner. If you are interested in this book, then I would also suggest checking out the author's other book ""Alphabet Anatomy, Meet the Capital Letters."" I've used the upper and lower case books for a couple of my boys and they are fabulous in that through personalizing each letter they are relatable and in turn memorable. I like that I can sit and read the whole book or open and just talk about a few letters. We had the pleasure of carrying these lovely books in our retail store. The feedback from local educators, kids and parents was always positive. Highly recommend! These books are great! My son is 5 and he loved reading them! The content is well thought out and very creative. Such a fun way to learn and remember his letters."
