He started as a sales and marketing manager for Airline Information, a US-based airline consultancy and conference company. James is now course director for undergraduate aviation management and senior lecturer in airline strategy at Coventry University. Prior to this position, he was senior lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University, teaching predominately airline strategy. James has a PhD in airline strategy from Loughborough University (entitled `The competitive strength of Asian network airlines in competing with low-cost carriers and the use of low-cost subsidiaries'), an MSc Air Transport Management from Cranfield University (full scholarship), and a BSc Air Transport Management from Loughborough University (top of department).
